Stephen King Reveals His Favorite Movies of All Time
As a new movie based on his work prepares to hit theaters, legendary author Stephen King has shared a list of his favorite films ever.
King posted the list on X while promoting the upcoming adaptation of The Long Walk. Before revealing his picks, he explained that he intentionally left out four famous movies based on his own stories. Those excluded titles were Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me, and The Green Mile — all widely considered top Stephen King adaptations.

King’s Favorite Movies (No Particular Order)
According to King, his personal favorites include:
- Sorcerer
- The Godfather Part II
- The Getaway
- Groundhog Day
- Casablanca
- The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
- Jaws
- Mean Streets
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- Double Indemnity
Many of these are classic favorites loved by critics and fans alike. However, one surprising choice is Sorcerer, a tense thriller that was not a big hit when it first released but later gained respect among film lovers.
Interestingly, most of King’s picks come from the 1970s — the decade when he was in his 20s, which may explain his strong connection to those films.
