Tampa Sets New Heat Record

Tampa Sets New Heat Record

Tampa, Florida hit a historic milestone on Sunday afternoon, reaching a scorching 100 degrees Fahrenheit—the highest temperature ever recorded in the city’s history, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). This new record surpasses the previous all-time high of 99 degrees, which was set on June 26, 2020.

This marks the hottest day in Tampa since official weather tracking began in 1890, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing heatwave gripping the region. A heat advisory remains active until 7 p.m. Sunday, with forecasters warning it will be reinstated Monday from noon to 7 p.m., as dangerously high temperatures continue.

Meteorologists attribute this extreme heat to a powerful high-pressure ridge combined with dry atmospheric conditions, creating the perfect storm for excessive surface heating. Residents can expect the unrelenting heat to persist through Tuesday, with little relief in sight.

Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and monitor local alerts as this record-breaking heatwave unfolds.
